28th - Goosander on the Yeo reduced to 7.  On the coast at Clevedon there were c60 Wigeon, 27 Grey Plover, 500+ Lapwing, 300+ Dunlin, a Spotted Redshank, a few Turnstones, a BGG Gull, 25+ Skylarks, 2 Stonechats and a Raven.  5 Little Egrets were inland at Channel View Farm.


27th - A very high count of 17 Goosander was made on the Blind Yeo at Clevedon today and 3 Peregrines were on the radio masts here.

25th -  A Ruddy Duck was a good find at Portbury Wharf today, perhaps an individual escaping the recent cull at Chew.  Also here were 100 Wigeon, 360 Teal, 13 Shoveler, 23 Pochard, 18 Tufted Ducks, 75 Coot,  55 Redshank, 4 Stonechats and a few mixed flocks of Fieldfare and Redwings.  At the Clevedon Yeo there were 75 Shelduck, 110 Wigeon, 60 Teal, 4 Goosander(on Blind Yeo), 4 Little Egrets, a Buzzard, a Water Rail, 15 Oystercatchers, 38 Grey Plover, only 2 Lapwing, 650 Dunlin, a Common Snipe, c40 Curlew, 100+ Redshank and 28 Turnstones.

24th - At Weston Moor today there were 82 Snipe, a Jack Snipe, 60 Teal sheltering in Walton brook and 3 Stonechats.

23rd - The colder weather produced a small influx of ducks at Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve today there were 100 Wigeon, 300 Teal, 24 Pochard, 18 Tufted Ducks, 27 Redshank, 12 Snipe, 28 Skylark, 65 Coot, 6 Little Grebes, 12 Curlew and 5 Bullfinch's.

21st - The very high tide this morning produced another Purple Sandpiper from somewhere at Battery Point as 5 were there along with a Rock Pipit.  Six Goosanders were on the Blind Yeo at Clevedon (4 drakes).  At the Clevedon-Yeo there were  25 Wigeon, 15 Teal, a Little Egret (21 were inland near Channel View Farm), 15 Oystercatchers, 12 Ringed Plover, 24 Grey Plover, 140 Lapwing, a Knot, c1200 Dunlin, a Snipe, 135 Curlew, 190 Redshank, a Spotted Redshank, 24 Turnstones, 2 Common Gulls, a Mistle Thrush and a Raven.

18th - The storm force winds failed to push any seabirds up the channel today.  Thin pickings out and about with 22 Little Egrets near the coast at Clevedon, 28 Curlew and 31 Ringed Plover were at Portbury Wharf.

15th  - At Clapton Moor there were 2 Stonechats, 4 Shoveler and 45 Wigeon.  Weston Moor had a Cetti's Warbler during the day and a Woodcock in the evening.  A Stonechat was near Wains Hill (thanks to Martin Parsons for the pic).

 

 
 
14th - At the Clevedon-Yeo today there were 4 Wigeon, c10 Teal, 8 Little Egrets, 14 Grey Plover, 275+ Lapwing, 300+ Dunlin, 22+ Snipe, 90+ Curlew, a Spotted Redshank, 60+ Redshank, 12 Turnstones, 2 Stonechats and a Reed Bunting. The Shag was still on the marine lake at Clevedon.  A Nuthatch and a Marsh Tit were in Clevedon Court Wood.  Four Pochard and a Little Grebe were on Portishead Boating Lake and a Stonechat was at Battery Point.
 
 
 
13th - A local duck rarity today with two Eider's seen on the sea at Portbury Wharf, the first record on an Eider on the coast between Portbury and Clevedon since 2002.  At Clevedon a Shag re-appeared on the Boating Lake, whilst on the coast there was a Short Eared Owl, a Brent Goose and a couple of Knot.  A Greylag was again just inland at Channel View Farm and 2 drake Goosander were on the Blind Yeo.
 
11th - Despite the strong winds seawatching was not productive with just a Shag and a few Kittiwakes from Battery Point and a 4 Kittiwakes from Ladye Bay.
 
10th - At Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve today there were 150 Teal, 155 Lapwing, 120 Dunlin, 49 Shelduck, 16 Tufted Ducks, 2 Stonechats and 3 Common Gull.  A staggering 186 Snipe were counted at Weston Moor along with 2 Jack Snipes.
 
 
8th - At the Clevedon Yeo today there were 40+ Shelduck, only 4 Wigeon, 20+ Teal, 23 Oystercatchers, 16 Grey Plover, 250+ Lapwing, 950+ Dunlin, 16 Common Snipe, a Jack Snipe, 90+ Curlew, a Spotted Redshank, 80+ Common Redshank and 33 Turnstones.  An estimated 3000 Black Headed Gulls were just inland at Channel View Farm.
 
7th - A dull and very wet day made any birdwatching a damp afair!  A redhead Goosander was on the Blind Yeo.  Five Greylags were at Dowlais Farm.  On the coast at Clevedon there were c2000 Dunlin, c200 Curlew, 20+ Grey Plover, 20+ Turnstone and 9 Ringed Plover.  At Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve there were 90 Teal, 28 Wigeon, 41 Coot, 16 Tufted ducks, 14 Pochard, 5 Little Grebe and 22 Redwing.
 
6th - A Greylag goose was with a small group of Canada's near Channel View Farm Clevedon today.  Also here were 13 Little Egrets.
 
2nd - The only report today was of a Raven over Clevedon.
 
1st - A grey, windy day to start the new year.  Just over 70 species recorded in the area.  Highlights - Little Gull, Purple Sandpiper and Med Gull at Portishead.  Marsh Tit in the Gordano Valley (missed this one last year!).  At the Clevedon Yeo there was a possible Fuscus (Baltic Gull) Lesser Black-Back Gull however the poor light prevented conclusive I.D, a Great Skua worked it's way up channel, 23 Little Egrets were seen a little inland, at least 1000 Lapwing were here.
