30th - Whimbrel numbers increased to 100+ at Clevedon today and a further 4 were seen inland a Colehouse Lane, where a Lesser Whitethroat was also seen.  Also on the coast at Clevedon were 25+ Wheatears, Yellow Wagtail, 2 Dunlin and a Ringed Plover.
 
29th - A Hobby was seen in the Gordano Valley today.  At Portbury Wharf there were 7 Little Grebes.  Two Purple Sandpipers are still at Battery Point and 2 Arctic Skuas were also seen here.  A Great Skua was seen from Ladye Bay this evening.
 
28th - This morning at Portishead 4 Gannets, 2 Little Gulls,5 Whimbrel and 5 Swifts were seen and this evening a dark phase Arctic Skua was seen from the same location.  At Clevedon there were 9 Wheatears, 1 Whinchat, 82 Whimbrel, Greenshank, 2 Groppers and 3 Peregrines.
 
27th - It was quiet at Portbury Wharf today with only 7 Little Grebe, 6 Canada Goose, Goldeneye, 32 Shelduck, 3 Whimbrel, 3 Oystercatchers and 2 Lesser Whitethroats to reports.
 
26th - A seawatch from Ladye Bay this evening produced only 45 'commic terns' and a Skua sp.
 
25th - A Little Owl was seen at Dowlais Farm, Clevedon today.
 
24th - An Osprey was seen from Wains Hill this evening, having earlier been seen at Weston.  The Cattle Egret was near the sea wall at the Clevedon Yeo this morning along with 6/7 Little Egrets, there were virtually no waders with only c20 Whimbrel seen.  A Peregrine was also there.  At Portbury Wharf the Goldeneye was seen along with 2 Tufted Ducks, 4 Little Grebes, 7 Whimbrel, Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat, 4 Swifts and lots of Swallows and House Martins.
 
23rd - The Marsh Harrier seen yesterday was re-located early this afternoon in the Gordano Valley before it moved onto Portbury Wharf, it was last seen heading off to Wales.  An Arctic Skua was seen in the gloom this morning from Battery Point.  The Ring-necked duck was still at Portbury Wharf along with 2 Short-eared Owls, 28 Whimbrel, 12 Ringed Plover, Sanderling, c30 Dunlin, 4 Common Sandpipers, 2 Stonechats, 2 Swifts, 3 Lesser Whitethroats, White Wagtail and a Wheatear.
 
22nd - A juvenille Marsh Harrier was observed well over Weston Moor in the Gordano Valley this afternoon, before drifting off towards Clevedon and not being re-located.
 
21st - The Black-necked Grebe (originally identified as a Slavonian) was not re-located today.  In the Wains Hill area there were 2 Pied Flycatchers, female Redstart, Grasshopper Warbler, Tree Pipit and a Yellow Wagtail.  At Portbury Wharf there were another 3 Groppers, Goldeneye, Gadwall, Peregrine, 3 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Redstarts and 3 Wheatears.
 
20th - A great find today was of a Black-necked Grebe on the coast at Wains Hill, Clevedon. A male Redstart was seen near the ringing station in the Gordano Valley.  At Portbury Wharf the Goldeneye was seen along with a Common Sandpiper, Cuckoo, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, 5 Whitethroats and a single House Martin.  At Weston Moor there were 2 Ravens, another Redstart, Sedge Warbler, Stonechat, 4 Reed Buntings and 5 Snipe.
 
19th - Migration kicked off today with a fall on the coast.  At Wains Hill 5 Pied Flycatchers were seen at Wains Hill, the first on the patch for two years.  The Cattle Egret was at Kingston Seymour and a Sedge Warbler, Reed Warbler and Little Owl were at Plantation Lakes.  At Portbury Wharf there was a Cuckoo, Lesser Whitethroat, Male Redstart, Whitethroat, Sand Martin, 3 Common Sandpipers, 2 Gadwall, Goldeneye, Whimbrel and 3 Wheatears.   A late afternoon visit to the Clevedon Yeo produced a staggering total of over 70 Wheatears, 6 Common Scoters, 7 Little Egrets, 4 Short-eared Owls and a Grey Plover.
 
18th - A Barn Owl and a Hobby were seen in the Portbury Wharf area this evening.  The Ring-necked Duck and Goldeneye are still there along with 2 Common Sandpipers, 4 Redshank, a Whimbrel, 2 Gadwall and 2 Tufted Ducks.
 
17th - The Cattle Egret was once again at Kingston Seymour this morning.  On the coast at Clevedon there were 6 Little Egrets, 4 Wigeon, 7 Whimbrel, 3 Common Sandpipers, 16 Redshank and a Sedge Warbler.  The Ring-necked Duck was seen again at Portbury Wharf.  A Tree Pipit flew over Weston Moor.
 
16th - It was very quiet at the Clevedon Yeo with only 3 Whimbrel and a Reed Warbler of note. At Portbury Wharf the Goldeneye was seen along with 1/2 Common Sandpipers, Wheatear, 3 White Wagtails and small numbers of Chiffchaffs, Blackcaps, Willow Warbler, Swallows and House Martins. 
 
15th - Two Tree Pipits flew over Wains Hill and a female Redstart was found in a local birders garden.
 
14th - The first Whitethroat of the year was heard at Portbury Wharf, where the Ring-necked Duck (thanks to Paul Bowyer for the photo) was also still present.  At Weston Moor there were 11 Snipe, 1 Little Grebe, 7 Lapwing, 1 Stonechat and good numbers of Willow Warblers and Chiffchaffs.
 
13th - At Portbury Wharf today there were 8 White Wagtails, female Goldeneye, 8 Little Grebes, 2 Green Woodpeckers, 3 Oystercatchers, 2 Canada Geese, 23 Shelduck and 2 Mute Swans busy building a nest.
 
12th - At the Clevedon Yeo this morning there were 2 Whimbrel, 6 Turnstone, 5 Dunlin, 4 Grey Plover and a Short-eared Owl.  The Ring-necked Duck and Goldeneye are at Portbury Wharf.
 
11th - This morning a Tree Pipit flew over Wains Hill with some finch's.  At Portbury Wharf this evening the Ring-necked Duck and Goldeneye were still present along with a Ringed Plover, 2 Oystercatchers, 3 Sand Martins, 5 Swallows, Water Pipit and another Tree Pipit.  A summer plumaged Golden Plover was at Clevedon this evening.
 
10th - The Cattle Egret was still in the Kingston Seymour area this morning.  The coast at Clevedon was quiet with the highlight being the first Whimbrel of the year, also seen were 6 Little Egrets, Spotted Redshank, Bar-tailed Godwit, two Short-eared Owls, Merlin and a Peregrine.  A Little Ringed Plover was seen on one of the new scrapes at Portbury Wharf, the Ring-Necked Duck and long staying Goldeneye were also here.  A Cetti's Warbler and Reed Warbler were at Weston Drove in the Gordano Valley.
 
9th - The Cattle Egret was seen at Kingston Seymour this morning which confirms that we have two in the area with the other bird at Frampton-on-Severn.  A male Goshawk was seen drifting up the Gordano Valley from Walton Common, Treecreeper and Nuthatch were also seen on the common.  A Bar-headed Goose was seen at Plantation lakes.  The Ring-necked was seen at Portbury Wharf today along with two White Wagtails.
 
8th - The Ring-necked Duck and Goldeneye were seen on the CEGB pool at Portbury Wharf today.
 
7th - Strong NW winds in the Channel produced 13 Gannets and a Fulmar from Clevedon and 3 Gannets, Kittiwake and an early Sandwich Tern from Battery Point.  At Portbury Wharf the Goldenye was seen 5 Tufted Ducks and 4 Little Grebes.
 
6th - News of a female Black Redstart at Portishead Police HQ on the 4th and 5th reached me today, a good bird anywhere on the patch, but this one chose an area with no public access.  Off Battery Point, 14 Kittiwakes were seen in brisk winds.  Portbury Wharf was quiet with no sign of the Ring-necked duck or Goldeneye with only 4 Little Grebes and 8 Coot on the CEGB pool.
 
5th - At Portbury Wharf today the Ring-necked duck has returned and the Goldeneye was still present, a Yellow-legged Gull and a Med Gull were also seen on the new pools.  35 Teal and 20 Redshank were in the muddy creeks here.  At Kingston Seymour the Cattle Egret was seen in the company of 13 Little Egrets, a Short-eared Owl was also in the area.
 
3rd - The Cattle Egret was again seen at Kingston Seymour this morning along with 9 Little Egrets.  A Little Owl was also in the same area.  Two Tree Sparrows were in the farmyard near the Hand Stadium.  On the coast at Clevedon there were 2 Green Sandpipers, 23 Turnstone, 2 Ringed Plover, 6 Lapwing, 42 Redshank, 12 Curlew, 30 Wigeon, 25 Teal and a Pintail.  A migration watch from Wains Hill early this morning was poor with only a handful of Sand Martins, Swallows and House Martins to report passing through, two local Peregrines were also seen.  At Portbury Wharf this afternoon a Little Ringed Plover flew in and 2Common Sandpipers was seen and the Goldeneye was present with 4 Tufted Ducks and 4 Little Grebes on the CEGB pool.  The Ring-necked duck appears to have defected to Barrow.   Excellent news from Walton Common with Lesser Pecker, Redstart and Wood Warbler all seen.
 
2nd - A male Hen Harrier was seen at 08:00hrs this morning from Wains Hill.  On the coast at Clevedon there were 15 Little Egrets and a Short-eared Owl.  A group of House Martins passed through Portbury Wharf this evening.
 
1st - The Cattle Egret was again seen in the Broadstone Lane/Middle Lane area of Kingston Seymour today.  On the coast at Clevedon a female Common Scoter was seen along with a Great Crested Grebe, 38 Brent Geese flew up the channel.  A Cetti's Warbler was heard singing at Blake's Pools.  The Ring-necked Duck continues it's stay at Portbury Wharf.
