31st - The last day of a dreary August started, well, dreary and wet.  At Clevedon there were 28 Turnstones, 28 Oystercatchers, c90 Curlew, a few Whimbrel, c300 Ringed Plover, c200 Dunlin, a Golden Plover, a Black-wit, a Knot, 14 Little Egrets and c8 Wheatears.  The rain failed to bring down any migrants at Portbury Wharf with just a juvenile Whinchat and 4 Garden Warblers of note.

 
29th - A Tree Pipit and a Grey Wagtail flew over Wains Hill this morning.
 
24th - Similar birds at Clevedon as a week ago with 22 Oystercatchers, 230 Ringed Plover, a Grey Plover, a Knot, 40 Dunlin, 2 Whimbrel, 135 Curlew, 18 Redshank, a Green Sandpiper, 5 Common Sandpiper 2+ Turnstones and 6 Wheatears.
 
22nd - At Portbury Wharf today there were 37 Teal (influx), 60 Redshank, a Spotted Redshank, 4 Whitethroat, 3 Blackcaps and 12+ Chiffchaffs.
 
19th - A Storm Petrel was seen from Royal Portbury Docks today.
 
17th - Today at Clevedon there were 4 Teal, 10 Little Egrets, 21 Oystercatchers, 260 Ringed Plover (a good count), a Grey Plover, 140 Dunlin, 3 Whimbrel, 80 Curlew, a Spotted Redshank, 15 Redshank, 4 Greenshank, a Green Sandpiper, 3 Common Sandpiper, 14 Turnstones, a Common Tern (adult on sea wall near Yeo), 4 Wheatears, a Cetti's Warbler and 2 Willow Warblers (both in FULL song!).
 
14th - At the Clevedon-Yeo today their were 2 Peregrines, 9 Little Egrets, 180 Ringed Plover, 6 Knot, 80 Dunlin, 3 Greenshank and 3 Wheatears.  A Gannet was seen off Sugar Load Beach, Portishead in the evening.
 
12th - A morning visit to Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve showed it to be fairly quiet with just the usual Tufted Ducks and Little Grebes on the main pool.  Also seen were 3 Lesser Whitethroats, 4 Reed Buntings and 3 Bullfinch.  A few Dragonflies are on the wing here including this Migrant Hawker (please correct me if my I.D. is wrong I am rubbish at Dragonflies!)

A PM visit to the Clevedon-Yeo produced 2 Peregrines, c40 Dunlin, c50 Ringed Plover, 2 Knot, 3 Turnstones, 93 Curlew, 6 Shelduck, 5 Little Egrets and 3 Wheatears.

10th - Little to report from Clevedon apart from 6 Black-Wits and 3 Wheatears.
 
7th - Persistence pays off at the Clevedon-Yeo with a Quail flushed from the seawall at Blakes Pools, also seen were a group of 12 Black-tailed Godwits, 15 Ringed Plover, c20 Dunlin, 2 Greenshank, 8 Common Sandpipers and 2 Turnstones.
 
6th - Plenty of activity at Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve today with 3 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Whitethroats, 1 Blackcap, 1 Garden Warbler, 10+ Chiffchaffs, 5+ Willow Warblers, 20+ Long Tailed Tits.  Another Tufted brood on the pools (makes 6 so far), 14 Common Sandpipers in Chapel Pill.
 
 
3rd - At the Clevedon-Yeo today there were 13 Little Egrets, 2 Buzzards, a Peregrine, 23 Oystercatchers, a Little Ringed Plover, 4 Ringed Plover, 12 Lapwing, a Knot, 36 Dunlin, 5 Black-tailed Godwit, 7 Whimbrel, 105 Curlew, a Spotted Redshank, 4+ Redshank, 2 Greenshank, 2 Green Sandpipers, 8 Common Sandpiper, 7 Turnstones, 2 Yellow Wagtails, 2 Wheatear and 4/5 Ravens.


 

2nd - Quiet at Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve with just 14 Common Sandpipers and 2 Black-wits of note.  In Clevedon an colourful bird frequenting a garden has been identified as a Black Bishop, which goes in the file called escapes!

 
1st August - A party of 11 Crossbills was seen inside Portishead, Police HQ today.  They were a mix of adults and juveniles.  An adult Curlew Sandpiper was at Clevedon.
