31st - For once a pub prediction has been proved with a juvenile (prob 2nd winter) Glaucous Gull this morning at Clevedon, also here were a group of 10 dark-bellied Brent Goose, a Yellow-legged Gull, a Water Pipit, a Common Sandpiper, c1500 Lapwing, 700 Dunlin, 4 Ringed Plover, 10 Turnstones, 5 Grey Plover, 50 Curlew, a Gadwall, 2 Ravens, 2 Stonechats, a Water Rail, a Cetti's Warbler and 8 Little Egrets.  A Marsh Tit and a Nuthatch were seen in the Gordano Valley.  A Med Gull was at Portishead Boating Lake.  In Portbury Wharf there were 10 Tufties, 6 Shoveler, 4 Gadwall, 5 Teal, 2 Goldenye and a Water Rail.
 
29th - A Little Stint and a Short-eared Owl were the best birds on a visit to Clevedon today, also here were 90 Shelduck, 110 Wigeon, 15 Teal, 2 Little Egrets (more are inland), 26 Oystercatchers, 11 Ringed Plover, 26 Grey Plovers, c900 Lapwing, 3 Knot, 1600 Dunlin, 110 Curlew, 155 Redshank, 38 Turnstones, 2 Stonechats and a Cetti's Warbler.
 
25th - Today at Clevedon there were 40+ Shelduck, c120 Wigeon, c30 Teal, 12 Little Egrets, 8 Oystercatcher, a Ringed Plover, 29 Grey Plover, a very large flock of c2000 Lapwing, a few Knot, 1200 Dunlin, 8 Snipe, 70 Curlew, 145 Redshank, 16 Turnstones, a GBB Gull, 4 Stonechats and a Cetti's Warbler.  Seven Common Scoter were seen heading up channel from Ladye Bay.  Four Mistle Thrush were at Walton-in-Gordano with another 2 at Kingston Seymour. 
 
24th - A Firecrest was a good find at Portbury Wharf today, also here were 2 Goldeneye, 12 Shoveler, 4 Tufted Ducks, 1/2 Water Pipits and a Stonechat. Three female Blackcaps were reported from a Portishead Garden.
 
21st Two Goldenye are now at Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve along with the usual Tufted duck, Gadwall, Pochard, Shoveler etc....
 
20th - At Clevedon today there were c700 lapwing, and c700 dunlin, 3 grey plover and the usual ducks.
 
18th - At the Clevedon-Yeo today there were 70 Shelduck, 210 Wigeon, 90 Teal, 22 Little Egrets, a Peregrine, 15 Oystercatchers, c12 Grey Plover, 180 Lapwing, 1600 Dunlin, 2 Jack Snipe, 22 Snipe, 110 Curlew, 140 Redshank, 18+ Turnstones, 2 GBB Gulls, 3 Rock Pipits, 2 Stonechats and a Raven.  At few Kittiwakes were seen on a seawatch.  Nine Pochard were on Portishead Boating Lake along with a Tufted Duck.  A Marsh Tit and a Nutchatch were seen in the Gordano Valley.
 
17th - Bits and pieces today with a Marsh Tit and a Nuthatch in the Gordano Valley, 4 Purple Sandpipers at Battery Point, 6 Pochard and a Tufted Ducks on Portishead Boating lake and a Redhead Goosander and a Tufted Duck on the Blind Yeo at Clevedon.
 
15th - An adult Med Gull was in the Gordano Valley today near Clapton-in-Gordano.
 
11th - At Clevedon today there were 60 Teal, 2 Ringed Plover, a Golden Plover, 24 Grey Plover, 40 Knot, 600 Dunlin, 8 Snipe, 40+ Redshank and 2 Stonechats.  Two Woodcocks were seen at Clapton Moor.
 
10th - A first winter female Scaup was at the top of the Yeo at Clevedon, a Common Sandpiper was also here.
 
 
9th - No sign of the Dartford Warbler today but 2 Siskins and 3 Redpolls were seen at Portbury Wharf.
 
7th - A mostly frozen Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve sprang a good bird with a Dartford Warbler today, also here were 2 Water Rails and a Woodcock.
 
4th - A trawl through Weston Big Wood produced a Nuthatch, a Treecreeper, 2 Green Woodpeckers and a GS Woodpecker.  Four Purple Sandpipers were at Battery Point.  A good selection at the Clevedon-Yeo with 60 Shelduck, 140 Wigeon, yesterdays Goldeneye & Gadwalls, 3 Pintails (we had none last year), 110 Teal, 6 Shoveler, 3 Peregrines, 7 Oystercatchers, 22 Grey Plover, 70+Lapwing, 55 Knot, 450 Dunlin, 12 Snipe, 40+ Curlew, Spotted Redshank, 75 Redshank, 12 Turnstones and 3 GBB Gulls.  Five Goosander were on the Blind Yeo.  A Merlin was at the Perfect Bite pools and a Little Owl was also seen in the back lanes of Clevedon.
 

3rd - A drake Goldeneye at the Clevedon-Yeo was an uncommon occurence today, a pair of Gadwall were also here.

1st - Well here we go again!  The traditional New Years day bash around the patch produced a creditable 80 species today.  The weather was freezing but a good day was had.  Highlights included a Water Pipit, Purple Sandpiper, 30 Grey Plover, Spotted Redshank and a Goosander at Clevedon, the Goldeneye and c30 Shoveler at Portbury Wharf and a Woodcock in the Gordano at dusk.  A Blackcap was in a local birders garden, pic attached.  Good birding in 2009.
