30th - Today at Clevedon there were 2 Snipe, 1 Short Eared Owl, 1 Little Egret, 6 Stonechat and c500 Lapwing. Film
26th - Today on the Blind yeo at Clevedon there were 5 Goosander, 2 Gadwall and a Kingfisher. 2 Tree Sparrows and 3 Bullfinch were in the farm yard near the Hand Stadium.
25th - On the coast at Clevedon today; 1 Black Tailed Godwit, 1 Female Merlin, 1 Female Scaup, 1 Short Eared Owl,8 Goosander, 7 Ringed Plover, 2 Grey Plover, c400 Dunlin, 2 Turnstone, 1 Little Egret, 6 Stonechats and 50+ Skylark. In the Blind Yeo area, 8 Goosander, 2 Peregrines and 3 Little Grebe. 4 Tree Sparrows were in the farm yard near the Hand Stadium.
24th - At Clevedon there were 12 Ringed Plover and 12 Turnstone near the pier. 6 Tree Sparrows were in the farm yard near the Hand Stadium. On the Blind Yeo there were 8 Goosander and 2 Gadwall.
21st - On the Blind Yeo there were 4 Goosander, 3 Little Grebe and 6 Tufted Duck, the farm yard near the Hand Stadium had 5 Tree Sparrows and a female Bullfinch. The Perfect Bite pools had 2 Water Rails, 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers ( drumming constantly ) a Little Owl and a pair of Bullfinch. There was a mixed flock of c40 Redwings and 10 Fieldfares in the Kingston Seymour area. The marsh at Wains hill held 3 Snipe and 53 Lapwing. A Tawny Owl was heard in the Gordano Valley.
On the coast there were c20 Grey Plover, c450 Lapwing, c150 Dunlin, 2 Raven, 1 Little Egret and a Short Eared Owl.
20th - There were 7 Tree Sparrows in the farm yard near the Hand Stadium and 4 Goosander ( 3 males ) on the blind yeo this morning. The evening in the Gordano Valley, Tawny Owl's were heard but the Woodcock was not seen.
19th - A Woodcock was seen this evening in the Gordano Valley.
18th - On the coast at Clevedon there was a Brent Goose, Spotted Redshank, c150 Dunlin,8 Grey Plover, c160 Shelduck, c50 Wigeon and Teal, Little Egret, 2 Stonechats and 2 Peregrines. On the Blind Yeo there were 5 Gadwall, 3 Little Grebe, Kingfisher and a redhead Goosander. At least 4 Tree Sparrows were in the farm yard near the Hand Stadium.
The afternoon at Portbury Wharf/CEGB pool there was a Barn Owl, Kingfisher, Water Rail, 18 Shoveler, 9 Tufted Duck and 5 Gadwall.
17th - In the Gordano Valley today a Marsh Tit, Nuthatch and Med Gull were seen.
13th - At Clevedon there were 160 Wigeon, 17 Oystercatchers, 19 Grey Plover, 350+ Lapwing, 370 Dunlin, Jack Snipe, 125 Curlew, 100 Redshank, Spotted Redshank and 19 Turnstone. Unfortunately the Cory's Shearwater seen at Severnside failed to make an appearance despite one dedicated patch watcher sea watching for 5 hours !
12th - The CEGB pool at Portbury Wharf held 5 Little Grebe and 6 Tufted Ducks. There were 2 Tree Sparrows in the farm yard near the Hand Stadium, Clevedon.
11th - A tour around the patch produced 7 Ringed Plover at Clevedon boating lake, an adult Med Gull on Clevedon Comp's playing fields, 8 Goosander are on the Blind Yeo(5 Drakes) and 3 Purple Sandpipers at Battery Point, Portishead. A sea watch from Ladye Bay was unproductive. 25+ Siskins were seen in the Gordano Valley.
10th - A Yellow Legged Gull was found at Clevedon along with a Little Egret, Scaup, Spotted Redshank, Gadwall, 20 Grey Plover, and 30 Turnstone.
9th - At Clevedon there were 16 Pintail, female Scaup, c200 Lapwing and the usual numbers of other waders. On the Blind Yeo there were 2 Gadwall, 2 Teal, 2 Little Grebe and 8 Goosander. The farmyard near the Hand Stadium held 7 Tree Sparrows which is the best count this winter. There were 3 Purple Sandpipers at battery point this morning on the high tide.
5th - A Barn Owl was seen hunting at Portbury Wharf at dusk.
4th - A good bird of prey day at Clevedon with 3 Short Eared Owls, Little Owl, 3 Peregrines and Buzzard seen. Also on the coast 2 Little Egret, Snipe, c400-500 Lapwing, 12 Redshank, 18 Grey Plover, c80 Dunlin, c110 Shelduck, 2 Stonechat and a female Scaup.
3rd - At the perfect bite pools there were 3 Lesser Redpoll, Green and Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Water Rail, and 6 Snipe. 2 Goosander were on the Blind Yeo. A Chiffchaff and Blackcap were in the Clevedon area also.
2nd - Little Egret and a Spotted Redshank seen in the Congresbury Yeo area.
1st - The traditional thrash around the patch on a cold, windy but thankfully dry day produced a very creditable 83 species. Highlights included, Short, Little & Tawny Owl, 11 Goosander, 2 Peregrines, Merlin, Jack Snipe, Water Rail, Redpoll, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Scaup & Golden Plover.
