26th - This morning at the Clevedon Yeo there were 4 Little Egrets, 35 Shelduck + 8 juvs, 6 Oystercatcher, Ringed Plover, 23 Lapwing, 1 Dunlin, 105 Curlew, 16 Redshank, 1 Common Sandpiper, 8 Reed Warblers, 3 Whitethroats, Yellow Wagtail and 25 Linnet.
 

 
23rd - The two Little Ringed Plovers were seen at Portbury Wharf today, but the chicks have not been seen now for several days.  Also seen were 5 Little Grebe, 2 Gadwall, 17 Curlew, 60 Redshank, 130 Black headed gulls.  Willow Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Chiffchaff and Blackcaps were also seen or heard.  At the Clevedon-Yeo a Cetti's Warbler was heard and c30 Curlew, 1 Little Egret, Shelduck with two broods of 6 & 8, 3 Ringed Plover and c30 Black-headed Gulls including a juvenile were seen.
 
22nd - At Portbury Wharf today there were 7 Lapwings, 3 Oystercatchers, 17 Redshank, 5 Curlew, 1 pair Pheasant + 5 chicks, c.30 Black Headed Gulls, 3 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Chiffchaffs singing and a Willow Warbler in song.
 
21st - More life at Portbury Wharf today with the two adult Little Ringed Plovers seen along with 2 Lesser Whitethroats, 4 Little Grebes, 40 Redshank, 23 Curlew, 2 Reed Buntings and 4 Skylarks.
 
20th - Where have all the birds gone?  The only sightings reported today were a female Peregrine over Blackrock Quarry, Portishead and two Swans with five signets at Weston Moor.
 
19th - On the sea wall at Clevedon this morning there was a Yellow Wagtail but more unusual was a Brown Argus butterfly.  At Portbury Wharf there were 2 Canada Geese + 2 goslings doing well, 2 Little Ringed Plovers and 2 chicks, 11 Lapwing,  27 Redshank, 9 Curlew, 2 Tufted Ducks, 2 Oystercatchers, 1 Lesser Whitethroat and 4 Little Grebes.
 
18th - Typically for this time of year it is very quiet,  the only bird of note today was a Cetti's Warbler singing strongly at Weston Moor in the Gordano Valley.
 
16th - At Portbury Wharf this evening 5 Little Grebes were seen along with 3 Tufted Ducks and 45 House Martins.  There was mixed news on the wader front with one adult Little Ringed Plover being seen with one chick, however a Lapwing chick was seen to be taken by a fox.
 
12th - Some news from off the patch today.  A Woodchat Shrike of the race Badius (also called 'Balearic' Woodchat Shrike) was found at Uphill yesterday afternoon and was still showing well today.  This is potentially the 4th U.K record of this race the last one being seen in 1995.  Click the picture below for more photo's.
 
 
10th - At Portbury Wharf today the Little Ringed Plover still have there young, one Black-headed Gull (unusual in June), 2 Gadwall, 5 Little Grebes, 5 Redshank, 4 Skylark, 3 Reed Buntings, Lesser Whitethroat and a Green Woodpecker.  Two Great Spotted Woodpeckers were seen this morning near the Police HQ at Portishead.   This evenings airborne excitement was provided by the Red Arrows who performed over Portishead Lake Grounds.
 
 
9th - At Weston Moor today there was a Stonechat, 4 Reed Buntings, 5 Lapwing, Green Woodpecker, 2 Sedge Warblers and a Reed Warbler, but it was generally quiet.  More unusual was 2 Bar-headed geese over Clapton Moor.  At Clevedon there were 35 Dunlin, one Shelduck Brood of seven and 15 Lapwing.
 
8th - Another Red Kite sighting this afternoon when one was seen drifting over Swiss Valley, Clevedon.  Some good news this evening from Portbury Wharf where Little Ringed Plover have successfully bred two chicks, also seen were three Lapwing chicks along with two adults.  Two Little Grebes were on the CEGB pool and on the shore there were eight Curlew, three Whimbrel and five Redshank.  Three Reed Buntings, Cuckoo and several Whitethroats were also here.
 
 
5th - It was quiet at Weston Moor in the Gordano Valley this morning with the highlight being a Hobby, a couple of Buzzard and a Kestrel were the only other birds of prey seen.  Also seen before the rain set in were several Lapwings, a Green Woodpecker, 2 Linnet, Whitethroat, Blackcap and dozens of House Martins and Swallows.  Little Owls were seen at Plantation Lakes and Dowlais Farm Clevedon along with 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers and a pair of Buzzards.  It was also quiet at the Clevedon-Yeo with 3 Little Egrets, 35 Shelduck, 3 Ringed Plover, 42 Dunlin, 2 Whimbrel, 9 Curlew, 2 Turnstones and 2 Wheatears being noted.
 
 
4th - Another Red Kite sighting this morning with an adult bird seen low over the top of Portishead (West Hill area) at 10:15, it headed off in the general direction of the Gordano Valley/Clevedon.  In the brisk winds this afternoon a Razorbill was seen from Ladye Bay, Clevedon.
 
2nd - The second Red Kite of the year for the patch was observed moving from the Clevedon Yeo area, up to Tesco's at Clevedon and the onto the Gordano Valley and Portishead.  Once again the bird was in heavy moult as per the bird on the 8th May.  At the Clevedon Yeo there were 3 Little Egrets, Ringed Plover, 35 Dunlin (a good June count) and a Wheatear.
