30th - To end the month, 5 Little Egrets, 22 Lapwing, 38 Curlew, 7 Oystercatchers, a Common Sandpiper and a Great Black backed Gull were seen at Clevedon today.  It can only get better!

28th - At Weston Moor today 3 Ravens, a Hobby and a Cetti's Warbler were seen.  A female Stonechat was at Dowlais Farm, Clevedon.

24th - On the coast at Clevedon today there were 5 Oystercatchers, 4 Redshanks, 5 Lapwing, 6 Skylarks, a large female Peregrine and 2 Buzzards.   

22nd - At Clevedon today there were 11 Mute Swans, 35+ Shelduck with broods of 10 and 11, both about 7 to 10 days old, 14 Oystercatchers, 18 Lapwing, a Dunlin, a Whimbrel, 14 Curlew, 21 Redshank, 2 Turnstones and 20+ Linnet.

21st - A few Manx Shearwaters were seen from Ladye Bay today in the strong winds.

17th - The long spell of hot weather continues, at Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve today there were 5 Little Grebes, a Lesser Whitethroat and 5 Siskins.

16th - At Clevedon today there was a first summer Grey Plover, 1 Ringed Plover, a few Dunlin, 2 Turnstones, 10 Oystercatchers, 2 Whimbrel and 10 Curlew.  Shelduck broods of 5,6 and 11 were seen.  Also seen were 3+ Painted Ladies and a Clouded Yellow Butterfly.

14th - Little to report at Clevedon today with only 8 Dunlin, 2 Turnstone, 15 Curlew, 1 Whimbrel and 25 Black-headed Gulls of note.

11th - At the Clevedon-Yeo this morning there were 8 Little Egrets, 12 Dunlin, 1 Knot, 12 Oystercatchers, a Curlew, 5 Whimbrel, 10 Lapwings, 6 Redshank, 2 Turnstones, a huge female Peregrine and a Wheatear.  At Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve there was a

Tufted Duck, 3 Redshank, 3 Reed Buntings, another big female Peregrine and 5 Ravens.  Of interest a dead Collared Flycatcher was photographed on a Turkish Lorry at Royal Portbury Docks two weeks ago, so close, yet so far! 

Congratulations to all those involved in the production of the 2004 Avon Bird Report, it won joint first prize in the national annual contest of bird reports!  Copies still available from the county recorder of myself.

 
 
8th - A little more variety at Clevedon today in the very hot weather, a early returning Green Sandpiper was the highlight, 35 Shelduck (one brood of 8), Peregrine, 14 Oystercatcher, 8 Lapwing, 7 Dunlin, Whimbrel, 3 Curlew, 6 Redshank, Common Sandpiper, 8 Black-headed Gulls, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 5+ Reed Warblers and 2 Whitethroats.
 
7th - At Weston Moor there were 3 Buzzards, 8 Reed Warblers, 11 Lapwing and 4 Reed Buntings. As it is very quiet on the birding front,  here are some pictures of moths caught last night; Cinnabar (first garden record), Flame Shoulder and Common Swift.
 
 
5th - A Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve there was a Barn Owl, 3 Skylarks, 3 Linnet and 7 Curlew, yes it's very quiet!
 
4th - Nine Sanderling were at Clevedon this morning.  It was quiet at Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve with 5 Little Grebes, 3 Redshank, 2 Garden Warblers and a Green Woodpecker of note.  At Clapton Moor there were 2 Stonechats and 2 Reed Buntings.  Three Roe Deer were also at Clapton Moor.
 
 
3rd - A Red Kite was seen going south-west from Portbury Dock this morning, so probably went into the Gordano Valley.  A Cetti's Warbler was at Weston Moor.
 
1st - A quiet start to the month at Clevedon with 19 Mute Swans, 25+ Shelduck, 10 Oystercatchers, 10 Ringed Plovers, 7 Lapwing, 1 Dunlin,  3 Whimbrel, c5 Redshank, 2 Turnstones, 3 Great Black-backed Gulls, a  Cuckoo and a Cetti's Warbler being seen.
