31st - Eleven Little Egrets were at Kingston
Seymour this morning, but the Cattle Egret was not seen. At Portbury
wharf it was a good wagtail day with 4 Yellow Wagtails, 6 White Wagtails
seen and also 3 Water Pipits, Ring-Necked Duck and the Goldeneye.
30th - The Cattle Egret was again reported from the
Broadstone Lane/Middle Lane area of Kingston Seymour this evening. At
the Clevedon Yeo there were 3 Short-eared Owls, female Merlin, Wheatear and
a Swallow. Two Purple Sandpipers are still present at Battert Point, Portishead.
An evening visit to Portbury Wharf produced the Ring-necked Duck, 9 Tufted
Ducks, female Goldeneye and 8 Little Grebes.
28th - A male Ring Ouzel was present for it's
second day just outside Portbuty Docks today and showed well. In the
Gordano Valley a pair of Yellowhammers were seen, good news for this locally
scarce bird. It was quiet at the Clevedon Yeo today with the
highlights being 3 Wheatears, Merlin, Peregrine and Short-eared Owl.
The only decent wader counts were 75 Redshank, 2 Oystercatchers and 26
Turnstones.
27th - A dull morning but there was plenty of
migration happening with the best sightings being a Marsh Harrier heading up
the Channel from Wains Hill along with two Redpoll, hundreds of Meadow
Pipits, 4 Swallows and small groups of Pied Wagtails and Greenfinch.
At Portbury Wharf the usual ducks are present, Ring-necked, Goldeneye and 9
Tufted Ducks, also in the area were 4 Little Grebes and c20 Sand Martins.
26th - The Ring-necked Duck was again seen at
Portbury Wharf along with 2 Water Pipits, female Goldeneye, Little Grebe, 2
Wheatears and 38 Sand Martins. Thanks to Jim Payne for the pictures.
25th - The Ring-necked Duck is still at Portbury
Wharf along with the long staying female Goldenye, 12 Tufted Ducks, 8 Little
Grebes, 5 Willow Warbler and at least 7 Chiffchaffs. An afternoon
visit to the same site also added a Goosander, c40 Shelduck, 60 Redshank, 15
Teal and 11 Willow Warblers. At Weston Moor a Peregrine, 15 Lapwing
and 2 Canada Geese were seen.
24th - An early morning trip to the Clevedon Yeo
today produced, 6 Little Egrets, 11 Canada Goose, 60 Shelduck, 55+ Wigeon,
45+ Teal, Merlin (female), Buzzard, 23 Oystercatchers, 4 Ringed
Plover, 6 Lapwing, 5 Grey Plover, 1 Knot, 1 Dunlin !, 1 Black-tailed Godwit,
3 Bar-tailed Godwit, 42 Curlew, 80+ Redshank, 1 Turnstone, 4+ Skylark
singing, 5 Wheatear and 3Chiffchaffs.
22nd - The Ring-necked Duck is still at Portbury
Wharf and a Black-tailed Godwit and a Goldeneye were also seen here. A
pair of Tawny Owls were heard in the Dial Hill area of Clevedon.
21st - A brief visit to the coast at Clevedon
(Channel View Bay) produced 10 Wheatears and 4 Chiffchaffs.
20th - The ring-necked Duck is still on the CEGB
pool along with 9 Tufted Duck, Goldeneye and a Little Grebe. A Merlin
and a Sparrowhawk were also seen. Some evidence of migration with at
least 10 Chiffchaffs here. A brief visit to Clevedon produced 2
Wheatears, 21 Oystercatchers, 30 Shelduck, Jack Snipe and Snipe.
18th - The Ring-necked Duck is once again back on
the CEGB pool at Portbury Wharf and a Goldeneye, 17 Shoveler, 6 Tufted Duck, Water Pipit and 8 Stonechats were also
seen there. In the Gordano valley a Merlin and 2 Little Grebes were
seen. A Wheatear was seen in the marsh at Wains Hill, Clevedon this
morning.
17th - At Clevedon today there was two Sand
Martins, 2 Little Egrets, 10 Canada Goose, 90 Wigeon, 6 Shoveler, female
Pintail, 6+ Oystercatchers, 8+ Lapwing displaying, 9 Knot, 6 Grey Plover, 20
Dunlin, 2 Snipe, 25 Curlew, Spotted Redshank, 90+ Redshank, 38 Turnstone,
Merlin, 4+ Skylark.
16th - At Clevedon there was a Great Crested Grebe
at the Yeo near Blakes Pools, c20 Grey Plover, c25 Turnstones,
c50Dunlin, Peregrine and a Merlin.
15th - A Wheatear was reported between the Kenn
Est. and Clevedon, spring is here!
13th - At Clevedon today there were 20 Knot, 15
Grey Plover, Spotted Redshank, 4 Turnstone, 1 summer plumaged Black-tailed
Godwit, 3 Little Egrets, at least 2 Short-eared Owls, female Merlin, 2
Peregrine, 2 Goosanders, 5 Ravens, 6 Stonechats and several Rock Pipits.
A new patch day record was set today by Paul Chapman and Howard Taffs of 88
species, well done to them, highlights included; Goldeneye, Water Rail,
Purple Sandpiper, Little Owl, Short-eared Owl, Chiffchaff, Marsh Tit,
Nuthatch, Treecreeper and Tree Sparrow.
In the Portbury Wharf area over the weekend there
were 152 Wigeon, 200 Teal, 47 Shelduck, 2 Canada Geese, 30 Curlew, c100
Redshank, Short-eared Owl, a pair of Stonechats, Water Pipit, Peregrine,
Water Rail, Raven and 3 adult Med Gulls.
12th - A Water Pipit and Goldeneye were still at
Portbury Wharth.
10th - At the Clevedon Yeo this morning there were 2
Little Grebe, at least 9 Little Egrets, 80 +Shelduck, 65+ Wigeon, 40+Teal,
female Merlin 16 Oystercatchers, 5 Ringed Plover, 18 Lapwing, 35 Grey
Plover, 24 Knot, 750+ Dunlin, Bar-tailed Godwit, Curlew only about 30, 80 +
Redshank, Spotted Redshank, 1 Turnstone, 2 Short-eared Owls, 2
Skylarks, 2 Rock Pipits and Stonechat 4. So no migrants yet, but they
cannot be far away!
7th - 130 Knot were at the Yeo along with c650 Dunlin and 10
Shoveler.
5th & 6th update - At Portbury Wharf on Saturday a Water Pipit,
Goldeneye, 7 Tufted Duck and 2 Shoveler were seem. A Tree Sparrow was
seen at Clevedon on both days. At the Yeo 85 Knot and a Short-eared
Owl were seen on Saturday, one Jack Snipe was seen on Saturday and 3 on
Sunday in the Marsh at Wains Hill. A Green Sandpiper was seen inland
from the Yeo on Sunday. Twelve Goosander and a
Little Grebe on the Blind Yeo on Saturday.
2nd - At Clevedon there were c50 Knot, 20 Grey Plover, 15 Turnstone
and c500 Dunlin. The Cattle Egret has not been seen for several days,
so it may have left the area.
