30th - At Portbury Wharf this afternoon there were 8 Redshank, 2 probable Black Tailed Godits, 4 Dunlin, 14 Shelduck with one brood of 8 chicks, 2 Skylark, Reed Bunting and a flock of 18 Linnet. Four Little Grebes and more unusually a Great Crested Grebe were on the CEGB pool. The Great Crested Grebe was the first seen on this pool in over 20 years of viewing by one patch watcher!
29th - It remains very quiet with very little about at Clevedon, this morning there was a Great Crested Grebe at the mouth of the Yeo, one Ringed Plover, an adult male Wheatear probably of the Greenland race and one Little Egret.
26th - At Clevedon this morning there was 1 Little Egret, Grey Plover and Knot both in summer plumage, 1 Whimbrel, 1 Curlew, 30 Dunlin and 6 Ringed Plover. A Little Owl, Buzzard and 3 Ravens were in the Kingston Seymour area.
23rd - A walk over high tide this morning at Clevedon produced only 30 Dunlin, 6 Ringed Plover, 5 Curlew, 2 Whimbrel, Bar Tailed Godwit, Black Tailed Godwit and 3 Oystercatchers. Reed and Sedge Warblers are abundant in Blakes Pools.
22nd - Generally very quiet on the coast with only a Hobby, c30 Dunlin, a few Ringed Plover and a Spotted Flycatcherat Clevedon.
21st - A Spotted Flycatcher was seen near Channel View Farm, Clevedon at lunchtime today.
16th - A quiet day with only 32 Ringed Plover, 30 Dunlin, 3 Bar Tailed Godwits, 2 Common Sandpipers, 12 Whimbrel and a Turnstone reported from Clevedon. A Little Owl was seen near Broadstone Lane.
14th - Two Brent Geese were on the sea wall at Clevedon along with small numbers of common waders.
11th - A Lesser Spotted Woodpecker was heard in Clevedon Court Wood, this is a real rarity on the patch and we can only hope it stays.
10th - A Wood Warbler was reported from Wains Hill. On the coast at Clevedon there were c400 Dunlin, 6 Turnstone and 10 Ringed Plover.
9th - A visit over high tide at Clevedon produced c800 Dunlin, 35 Ringed Plover, 5 Turnstone. c15 Whimbrel, 2 Curlew, 4 Oystercatchers, Redshank and a Wheatear. Blakes Pools held 2 singing Cetti's warblers along with Sedge, Reed and Whitethroats.
8th - 80 species were seen or heard on the patch today, the pick being a dark phase Pomarine Skua resting on a sand bank, 8 Turnstone, 2 Bar-Tailed Godwit, 20 Ringed Plover, Sanderling, 7 Little Egret, 3 Curlew, 2 Common Sandpiper, 30 Knot and a Wheatear . Tree Sparrows were heard near the Hand stadium and Little Owl and Cetti's warbler were in the broadstone lane area(Kingston Seymour). On the CEGB pool Portbury Wharf there were 3 Little Grebe and a Tufted Duck.
6th - Seawatching prodcued two Great Skuas and a Pomarine Skua in the Estuary. On the coast at Clevedon there were c800 Dunlin, 10 Ringed Plover and a Sanderling
5th - Superb seawatching from Ladye Bay this evening with a Sabines Gull, Little Tern, Black Tern, 2 Pomarine Skuas, 4 Great Skuas, Common Tern, 8 unidentified Skuas and 450 "Commics".
4th - AM - Seawatching from Clevedon was again
productive with 2 Fulmar,24 Gannet,c30 "Commic
Terns", 1 Pomarine Skua, 5 Skua sp and a flock of c15
Skua sp landed on sandbar, but lost due to poor
visibility and rain as they landed.
3rd - The strong winds late this afternoon produced 4+ Pomarine Skuas, 4+ Arctic Skuas and several hundred terns most of which were probably Arctic from Ladye Bay, Clevedon. At the Clevedon Yeo there were c300 Dunlin, 50 Ringed Plover, 30 Whimbrel, Sanderling, 3 Turnstone, 4 Oystercatcher, 2 Knot, Peregrine and a Little Egret. Several Hobbies were seen in the Gordano Valley.
2nd - Mist made seawatching very difficult and only a single Arctic Tern and 8 Bar Tailed Godwits were seen before giving up. On the coast at Clevedon this morning a good selection of waders were seen with 45+ Ringed Plover, Golden Plover, Summer Plumage Grey Plover, 340+ Dunlin, 8 Bar Tailed Godwit, 85 Whimbrel, Greenshank, and 4 Common Sandpipers. Also seen were 5 Little Egrets, Peregrine, 3+ Yellow Wagtails, 2 Cuckoos, 2 Whinchats and 6 Wheatears. Warblers seen included Cettis's, Sedge (4), Reed(15+) and lots of Willows Warblers etc.. On Wains Hill there were numerous Whitethoats, Lesser Whitethroats and Linnet along with dozens of Swallows and House Martins. Three Tree Sparrows were seen near the Hand Stadium.
1st - In and around the patch today there were c1000 Dunlin, 2 Knot, Whimbrel, lots of Ringed Plovers, 2 Yellow Wagtails, 3 Wheatear, 2 Whinchat, Garden Warbler and the first Hobby of the year was seen, a patch day list of 82 species was recorded.
