30th - A Water Rail was in the farmyard near the Hand Stadium at Clevedon today, at least 4 Little Grebes were on the Blind-Yeo.  Apart from 2 calling Water Rails at Clapton Moor it was very quiet there.  On the coast at Clevedon there was a build up of waders with 16 Oystercatchers, 10 Ringed Plover, 26 Grey Plover, 130 Lapwing, 1400 Dunlin, 24 Snipe(all at mouth of Yeo), 270 Redshank, a Green Sandpiper, 16 Turnstones, 2 GBB Guls, a Stonechat and 2 Ravens.  Also here were 60+ Shelduck, 110 Wigeon, 25 Teal and 3 Little Egrets.
 
27th - A Little Grebe was reported from Portishead Marina (posh word for old docks!) the first record I have seen of this species here.
 
26th - At Potbury Wharf Nature Reserve today there were (on the coast) c.600+ Dunlin, 150 Teal plus a few Wigeon, Snipe, Redshank and Curlew and 2 Stonechats on the saltmarsh. On the pools there were 5 Little Grebes, 3 Mute Swans, 16 Gadwall, 5 Shoveler, 3 Pochard, 14 Tufted. 1 female Goldeneye and up to 3 Cettis Warblers around the poolside bushes.
 
21st - A blustery day at Clevedon today which pushed a least 3 Kittiwakes up to the Yeo, also here were 52 Shelduck, 10 Wigeon, 15 Teal, 15 Oystercatcher, c50 Curlew. 75 Lapwing, c450 Dunlin, c90 Redshank, 3 Snipe, 5 Grey Plover, c20 Turnstones, a Merlin, a Peregrine, a Raven and 2 Little Egrets.

 
20th - At Clevedon today there were 95 Shelduck, 45 Wigeon, 100+ Lapwing, 900 Dunlin, 220 Curlew, 170 Redshank, 24 Turnstones and 2 GBB Gulls.
 
18th - A Grey Phalarope joined the Purple Sandpipers at Battery Point on the high tide this morning, however by 11:30 it had gone.
 
16th - Three Purple Sandpipers were at Battery Point, also here were at least 4 Rock Pipits and a Snipe.  A Pochard and a Tufted Ducks were on Portishead Boating lake.  At the Clevedon-Yeo one of the Purple Sandipers from over a week ago was still present along with 35 Shelduck, 40 Wigeon, 45 Teal, 5 Little Egrets, 32 Oystercatchers, 11 Ringed Plover, c300 Lapwing, 600+ Dunlin, 23 Snipe, c100 Curlew, 130 Redshank, a Spotted Redshank, 32 Turnstone, c150-200 Fieldfare, 50 Redwing, a Cetti's Warbler, 6 Stonechats and 20+ Linnet.

 
15th - The first report this winter of the Purple Sandpipers at Battery Point with 3 seen today, a Med Gull was also on the boating lake here.  Remember, if you want to see the Sandpipers you need to visit over a high tide.
 
14th - A Waxwing was reported this afternoon in North Weston in a garden for 5 minutes.  Check those supermarket car parks carefully over the weekend!
 
9th - Seawatching from Ladye Bay produced a Red Throated Diver, 2 Med Gulls and c200+ Kittiwakes today.
 
7th - Continuing the run of good birds for the patch a juvenile Whooper Swan was at the mouth of the Clevedon Yeo today, before being seen to fly off north.  19 Kittiwakes were also here.
 
6th - A Purple Sandpiper remains at the Clevedon-Yeo, also here was a Spotted Redshank.
 
5th - A Yellow-browed Warbler was a great find at Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve today, plenty of winter thrushes also here.
 
4th - A Snow Bunting was at heard at Clevedon today but could not be located on the deck.
 
2nd- Three Purple Sandpipers at Clevedon were an uncommon find today (still none at Battery Point), also here were 4 Knot, 12 Grey Plover, 3 Turnstones and c300 Dunlin.  Just inland fro Channel View Farm there were 23 Little Egrets.  At least 3 Lesser Redpoll were at the Perfect Bite pools. 


 

1st = Two late migrants at Clevedon today with a Ring Ouzel and a Greenland race Wheatear being seen.
