29th - A Snow Bunting was heard, but not seen at the mouth the Kenn today.

28th - It was quiet at the Clevedon-Yeo this morning with the highlights being 1 Bar-tailed Godwit, 7 Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Turnstones, 2 Snipe, c50 Redshank, c50 Dunlin, c150 Lapwing, 235 Shelduck, c50 Wigeon and 2 Stonechats.  On the Blind Yeo there were 2 Little Grebes, 35 Canada geese and a Ringed Teal, is this the same bird that was on Portishead Boating Lake?

On Weston Moor there was 1 Little Grebe, c40 Mallard, 61 Snipe and c30 Redwings.  The Goldeneye that has been present since September was not seen.

27th -  Today at Portbury Wharf there were  4 Little Grebes, 12 Tufted Duck, 2 Pochard, 400 Lapwing, 600 Dunlin (good count here), 27 Snipe, 36 Redshank, 
11 Skylark, 1 Stonechat (poor numbers so far this winter) and c.100 Redwing.

This morning at Clevedon there was a female Merlin (pic. below, thanks Jim), 3 Little Egrets, 150 Lapwing, 40 Grey Plover, 300+ Wigeon, 100 Teal, 10 Shoveler, 100 Curlew, 300+ Dunlin, 1 Black-tailed Godwit, Spotted Redshank, a Reed Bunting and 3 Stonechats.

                               

 

25th - At the Clevedon-Yeo today there were 30 Golden Plovers (flew NE), c200 Lapwing, 180 Dunlin, 12 Grey Plovers, 4 Black-tailed Godwits, 4 Little Egrets and 180 Shelduck.

23rd - Two Short-eared Owls were seen at the Clevedon-Yeo.

22nd - A flock of 14 Little Egrets were in a field near the sewage works at Clevedon-Yeo today, this is a very large count for November,  along with a large flock (1750+) of gulls, mostly Black-Headed, anyone fancy looking through the all?

19th - A Purple Sandpiper was seen at Battery Point, Portishead and 5 Pochard are on the Boating Lake there.

18th - A 75min Seawatch from Ladye Bay produced only a flock of c30 Kittiwakes.

16th - Best news today was of a record of 20 Waxwings flying over the sea wall at the Clevedon-Yeo on Sunday morning, lets hope this heralds a mass arrival this winter.  Today at Clevedon there were 5 Little Egret,  15 Canada  Goose, 110 Shelduck, 140 Wigeon, 30 Teal, 24 Oystercatchers, 14 Ringed Plovers, 12 Grey Plovers, 55 Lapwing, 375 Dunlin 375, 13 Black-tailed Godwits, 145 Curlew , 1 Spotted Redshank,  130 Redshank, 24 Turnstone, 4 Common Guls, 1 GBB Gull, 2+ Rock Pipits, 2 Stonechats, 40+Fieldfare and 50+ Redwing.

14th - A Firecrest on Wains Hill was a good find today.  At the Clevedon-Yeo there were 2 Short Eared Owls, c375 Dunlin, 15 Turnstone, 40 Grey Plover, 27 Oystercatchers, 8 Black-tailed Godwits, 4 Little Egrets, 1 1st winter/female Scaup, 3 Stonechats, 2 Rock Pipits, 1 Merlin and a male PeregrineNo Snow Buntings were seen.  Photo of Short Eared Owl and Snipe from Jim Payne.

 

13th -  A Snow Bunting was still present at the Yeo today, along with a 1st winter/female Scaup, 3 Knot and 9 Black-tailed Godwits. 

At Portbury Wharf this morning there were 6 Little Grebe, 36 Wigeon, 140 Teal, 13 Tufted Duck, 60 Dunlin, 42 Snipe, 1 Grey Wagtail and a Chiffchaff.  PM update - A Pochard and a pair of Gadwall have appeared on the CEGB pool at Portbury Wharf and c100 Fieldfares were seen in the area.

12th - No sign of the Snow Buntings or Twite today at Clevedon, but a Merlin, Spotted Redshank, c100 Lapwing and a Raven were seen.

11th - A Snow Bunting was seen near Blackstone Rocks at Clevedon today, but that was the only one that could be found.  Also seen were a Spotted Redshank at the mouth of the Yeo along with 8 Little Egrets, 2 Black-Tailed Godwits, 130 Dunlin and 230 Wigeon.

9th - There were 6 Snow Buntings reported from the Clevedon Yeo this morning with 3 remaining loyal to the patch of ground near the mouth of the Yeo.  A Twite flew overhead and a Short-Eared Owl was seen.

7th - The 3 Snow Buntings were still present at the Yeo this morning and a group of 4 Twite were also in the same area.  Also seen were 9 Black-Tailed Godwits, 2 Turnstones, 2 Golden Plover, 10-15 Snipe, c200 Lapwing, 8 Shovelers, 1 female Pintail and a Brent Goose.  The 3 Short-eared owls were also seen flying over the field by the sea wall.  The image of the Snow Bunting and Twite are courtesy of Jim Payne.

        

6th - The 3 Snow Buntings were still at the mouth of the Yeo this afternoon and they allowed close views down to a few meters at times, as well the picture below further images are available by following this link - SNOW BUNTINGS PICS.

 

Also seen were a Peregrine, c150 Dunlin, 20 Grey Plover, 8 Black-Tailed Godwits, 4 Turnstone, c200 Lapwing, 5 Oystercatchers, c100 Redshank, 7 Shovelers, 62 Shelduck, 160 Wigeon, and a pair of Stonechats.

5th - 3 1st winter Snow Buntings were a good find near the mouth of the Yeo today along with c75 Redshank, c125 Dunlin, 10 Turnstones, 18 Grey Plover and 3 female Shovelers.  A Little Stint was seen on the sea wall.  There were 3 Turnstones near Clevedon Pier.  

This morning around 5 - 600 Woodpigeons flew over Wains Hill with an active Peregrine in tow!  Also seen were small groups of Chaffinch, Greenfinch and Goldfinch.  A Peregrine was also seen hunting over Down Road, Portishead and my garden (off Down road) held it's first Blackcaps of the Winter.

4th - An afternoon visit to the Clevedon Yeo produced 3 Short Eared Owls, 6 Little Egrets, Dunlin, Oystercatchers, a few Turnstones and Stonechats and a Peregrine.

3rd - This morning at the Clevedon Yeo there were 5/6 Little Egrets, 90 + Shelduck, 140+ Wigeon, 2 Coot (Yeo River), 230+Dunlin, 5 Black-tailed Godwits, 140+ Redshank, 2 Greenshank, 6 Snipe, 1 Jack Snipe, 24 Turnstone, 1 Short-eared Owl and 4 Stonechats..
