31st - The Yellow Browed Warbler could not be located this morning.  A migration watch from Wains Hill showed that about 2500 Chaffinchs per hour were passing over along with 10 Siskins, 3 Redpolls and a Brambling.  At the Clevedon Yeo there are now 3 Short-Eared Owls.  Also seen were 5 Little Egrets, c200 Curlew, 12 Snipe, 32 Grey Plovers, 12 Black-Tailed Godwits, c200 Dunlin, 4 Turnstone, 33 Oystercatchers, Peregrine and 3 Stonechats.

30th - The Yellow Browed Warbler was again located in the area of St Andrews Church, Clevedon today.  It was seen several times during the day, but was elusive.  At the Clevedon-Yeo there was a Short Eared Owl, 9 Black-Tailed Godwits, 2 Knot, 30 Grey Plover, 12 Oystercatchers and 6 Little Egrets. 

29th - A Yellow Browed Warbler was located by St Andrews Church, Wains Hill this morning and was seen well.  However a further two hours of searching between 09:00 - 11:00 failed to relocate the bird.  This is the second year in a row that this species has been recorded in Clevedon.  Also in the area were several Willow Warblers, Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps.  Goldcrests were abundant.  

25th - Brief views of a Leach's Petrel and a small Skua this morning after the high tide at Clevedon.

24th - A PM visit to Portbury Wharf produced 7 each of Little Grebe and Tufted Duck on the CEGB pool and a Sparrowhawk

This morning I led a Bristol Ornithological Club migration watch from Wains Hill, Clevedon.  nearly 5000 birds were counted in around 3hrs of watching, the highlights being two Crossbills.  The first birds appeared at 07:40 and by about 10:00 passage had reduced to virtually nil.  Many thanks to those who came along to assist, full details as follows;

23rd - A male Crossbill was seen flying over Wains Hill this morning along with 600 - 800 of Chaffinch's, 300 Greenfinch, 4 Siskins, two Redwings, 6 Meadow Pipits and 300 Starlings..

17th - A great morning at Clevedon with a female Dartford Warbler and a ringtail Hen Harrier being the highlights.  The Dartford Warbler was found at the end of the track from Channel View Farm early this morning and was well seen by several observers.  Later on the Hen Harrier was seen making it's way down the coast being mobbed by crows.  Also seen were a Ruff, 2 Greenshanks,  1 Golden Plover, 6 Black Tailed Godwits, 6 Turnstone, 6 Ringed Plover, c100 Dunlin, c200 Redshank, 150 Curlew, 6 Little Egrets, 80 Wigeon, Sparrowhawk and 2 Peregrines.

16th - This morning at Wains Hill 5 Swallows, 2 Chiffchaffs, 1 Blackcap, 1 Bullfinch, 1 Brambling and around 50 Goldcrests were seen or heard.

13th - At Clevedon there was a similar selection of birds as Monday, of note were 18 Grey Plover, 1 Knot, Dunlin about the same (140+), Black-tailed Godwit 16, Ring Plover 15, Greenshank, 4 Wheatear, 2 Stonechat and a male Peregrine.

11th - A slog down the Clevedon Yeo produced a good variety of birds with some winter visitors arriving and summer birds departing.  Birds seen were, Little Egret 7, Brent Goose 1, Shelduck 90+, Wigeon 90+, Teal 60+, Grey Plover 4, Lapwing 5, Dunlin 130+, Ruff (male) 1 (still present up Yeo), Snipe 2, Black-tailed Godwit 14, Redshank 130+ (120 on Yeo), Greenshank 1, Common Sandpiper 1, Turnstone 5, Common  Gull 2, GBB Gull 1, Skylark  20, House Martin 2 , Meadow Pipit 50+, Whinchat 1 (a late one at Yeo Bank farm), Wheatear 2, Redwing c4, Song Thrush c6, Chaffinch 60++, 250 Starlings went NE and 30 Jackdaws went SW.  

10th - A two hour migration watch from Wains Hill this morning produced the following;

150 House Martins were also seen at around 10:00 over the Dial Hill area of Clevedon.  

On a pool in the Gordano Valley there was a Goldeneye and 2 Little Grebes.

9th - A migration watch from Wains Hills produced mass's of birds; 800 Redwing, 300 Greenfinch, 250 chaffinch,200 Meadow Pipit,50 Skylark, 40 Starling,35 Goldfinch,25 Song Thrush,12 Mistle Thrush,12 Pied Wagtail, 6 House Martin, 2 Grey Wagtail, 2 Siskin, 2 Brambling, 1 Swallow, 1 Tree Pipit, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker (yes it did appear to be migrating!), 3 Chiffchaffs and 5 House Sparrows.

4th - 3hrs of seawatching from Ladye Bay produced only one Tern sp.  Never mind!  I forgot to mention that yesterday a Red Bishop bird was found near Channel View Farm Clevedon, although it could not be found today, here's a picture of one, it's pretty, but you cant tick it Howard!

 

3rd - A good variety of waders at Clevedon today with 1 Curlew Sandpiper, 2 Greenshank, 1 Common Sandpiper, 95 Redshank, 30 Oystercatchers, 14 Ringed Plover, 240 Dunlin, 1 Ruff, 16 Black Tailed Godwits, 24 Turnstone, 10+ Knot, 1 Grey Plover, and lots of Curlew, 13 species, not bad!  Also seen were 7+ Little Egrets, 75 Shelduck, 15 Wigeon, 8 Wheatear, a Whinchat and 6 Skylark.  

2nd - A Peregrine Falcon and a Sparrowhawk were seen over Blackrock quarry Portishead at lunchtime today.

1st - At the Gordano Valley Ringing Station today they ringed a Garden Warbler, 3 Reed Warblers, 16 Chiffchaffs and 40 Blackcaps.
