30th - 2 Spotted Flycatchers, a Redpoll, 2 Siskins and a few other bits and pieces flew over Wains Hill this morning.

29th - A Little Stint was seen near the golf course at Wains Hill, also seen here were 4 Wheatears, c100 Goldfinches (single flock), c55 Meadow Pipit, c15 Linnet, 16 Little Egret, 3 Knot, 3 Turnstones, 2 Ringed Plover, 11 Dunlin, 20 Skylark, 12 Grey Plover,  4 Stonechat and c55 Wigeon.  Another Firecrest was reported from the Dial Hill area of Clevedon.

27th - A Tree Sparrow was the highlight from some fly-over birds on Wains Hill this morning.  At the Clevedon-Yeo there were 2 Little Stints, a Knot, c100 Dunlin, c30 Ringed Plover, 5 Redpoll and 14 Little Egrets.

26th - Three cracking Firecrest's were trapped at Gordano Valley Ringing Station today, many thanks to Lyndon Roberts for the great photo's, also trapped were c70 Blackcaps and 10 Chiffchaff's.

25th - On the coastal path at Portishead there were 4 Jays, 3 Stonechats, 5 Goldcrest, 3 Chiffchaff and a Whimbrel.

24th - The wader roost at Clevedon held a Little Stint, 4 Curlew Sandpipers, 31 Turnstone and c150 Ringed Plover/Dunlin.  Also at Clevedon were 25+ Wigeon, 30+ Teal, 18 Little Egrets, 2 Buzzards, Peregrine, 30 Oystercatcher, 33 Lapwing, a Knot, 1 Snipe, c70 Curlew, 160 Redshank, 2 Green Sandpipers and at least a dozen Wheatears.  Late news of a Wood Sandpiper seen today at the Clevedon-Yeo.


 

23rd - At Clevedon today 2 second winter Med Gulls, a Little Stint and a Curlew Sandpiper were seen.

22nd - A Yellow Browed Warbler was a good find at Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve today.  Also there were a Ruff, 19 Little Grebes, 13 Tufted Ducks, 7 Pochard, 4 Wigeon, 51 Coot, a Kingfisher, 3 Bullfinch, 2 Stonechat, 115 Teal and 45 Redshank.
 

21st - At the Clevedon Yeo today there were 31 Canada Goose, 45 Shelduck, 30 Wigeon, c60 Teal, 18 Little Egrets, 33 Oystercatcher, 18 Ringed Plover, a Golden Plover,  16 Lapwing, 1/2 Knot, a Little Stint (possibly 4), 3 Curlew Sandpipers, 180 Dunlin, a Reeve, 80+ Curlew, 75 Redshank, 2 Greenshank, a Green Sandpiper, 2+ Rock Pipits, a Stonechat, 3 Wheatears, 3+ Chiffchaffs, a Willow Warbler and 20 Linnet.

19th - A Ruff was a nice find at Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve today, also there were 20+ Little Grebes, small numbers of Pochard, Wigeon and Tufted Ducks along with a Wheatear.

18th - At Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve today there were 20 Little Grebes, 5 Wigeon, 5 Teal, 15 Tufted Ducks, 8 Pochard, a Snipe, a Sparrowhawk,  8 Lapwing and 3 Mistle Thrush.

17th - This morning at Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve there were 2 Buzzards, 15 Tufted Ducks, 5 Pochard, a Gadwall, several Teal, 13 Little Grebes, 9 Lapwing, a Snipe (very obliging for a photo), a Great Spotted Woodpecker and c6 Chiffchaffs.  At the Clevedon-Yeo there were 55+ Shelduck, 90 Teal, a Wigeon, 12+ Little Egrets, a Buzzard, a few Oystercatchers, 4 Ringed Plover, 30 Lapwing, 30+ Dunlin, 3 Snipe, Curlew, 80+ Redshank, a Greenshank, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Sandpiper, 4+ Turnstones, a Kingfisher and 4 Wheatears.
 

15th - The Pec Sand was still present this morning.  Along the Clevedon coast there was a Spotted Flycatcher, a Whinchat, 2 Knot, 2 Little Egrets, and a Stonechat.

14th - The first Pectoral Sandpiper since 2002 was found at Channel View Bay, Clevedon today.  Thanks to Paul Bowerman for the picture.  At Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve there were 33 Curlew, 26 Redshank, a Curlew Sandpiper, 3 Black-Tailed Godwits, 2 Knot, a Greenshank, a Barn Owl and 13 Little Grebes.  PM Update - Pec Sand still present this evening in the same area.

 

12th - At Clevedon today there was a juvenile Curlew Sandpiper, 140 Curlew, 17 Wigeon, 11 Teal, a GS Woodpecker, a Chiffchaff, 4 Rock Pipits, c500 Dunlin/Ringed Plover, a Sanderling,  a Peregrine, 13 Little Egret, 38 Shelduck, 2 Wheatears and 4 Skylarks.

11th - At Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve there were 17 Pochard (small influx), 10 Tufted Ducks, 10 Little Grebes, a Little Egret, a greenshank, a snipe, 3 Whinchats, a Wheatear and a Blackcap.

10th - A very warm and sunny day with very high tides at Clevedon today.  A good bird was a Woodlark flying over Wains Hill first thing, also seen/heard were were a Nuthatch, Green Woodpecker, Mistle Thrush and several Blackcaps.  On the coast at Clevedon there were 58 Canada Goose, 70 Shelduck, 32 Teal, 2 Wigeon, 20 Little Egrets, Peregrine, 3 Buzzards, 24 Oystercatcher, 45 Ringed Plover, a Grey Plover, 24 Lapwing, 3 Knot, 110 Dunlin, 3 Black-tailed Godwit, a large flock of 50 Bar-tailed Godwit, 260 Curlew, 140 Redshank, 2 Sanderling, 4 Greenshank, a Green Sandpiper, 3 Common Sandpipers 1 GBB Gull, 2 Kingfishers, 2 Yellow Wagtails, 4 Whinchat, a juvenile Redstart, c12 Wheatears, 4 Lesser Whitethroats and a Sedge Warbler.  Not bad at all.


 

9th - A Yellow Wagtail and a Tree Pipit were seen at Wains Hill.  A Bar-wit , two Greenshanks and 3 knot at the Clevedon-Yeo with one hinchat along the seawall were the highlights from Clevedon.

7th - A Little Stint was found at Clevedon today along with 20 Little Egrets, 2 Buzzard (on the salt marsh near the tide line!), 30 Oystercatchers, 75 Ringed Plover, 2 Golden Plover, 30 Lapwing, 180 Dunlin (all juvs), a Whimbrel, c100 Curlew, 150 Redshank, 3 Greenshank, 2 Common Sandpiper, 5 Turnstones, 6 Great Black-backed Gulls (3 adults and 3 juvs) and 4 Wheatear.  At Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve there were 14 Tufted Ducks, 4 Pochard, a Black-Wit, 30 Redshank, 2 Green Sandpipers, a Greenshank, 35 Teal, 2 Little Egrets, a Grey Wagtail, 8 Little Grebes and 5 Chiffchaff.

 
6th -  A Tree Pipit and two Grey Wagtails flew over Wains Hill today.
 
4th - A single adult Med Gull was at Portishead Boating Lake.

3rd - A low tide visit to Clevedon only produced 6 Little Egrets, a Peregrine and 6 Wheatears worthy of note.

2nd - Strong winds tempted local birders to look at the sea, but the picking were thin with a Manx Shearwater, a Bonxie and a Fulmar seen.  On the mud at Clevedon there were  2 wheatears, 80 dunlin, 20 ringed plovers and a turnstone.  At Portishead Boating Lake there were 2 adult Med Gulls and 3 juveniles.  A Little Stint was inside Royal Portbury Dock.

1st - To kick off what will hopefully be an interesting month (optimism is always necessary when birding this area!) there were 9 Tufted Ducks, 4 Pochard, am eclipse Wigeon, 8 Little Grebes, a Greenshank, a Green Sandpiper and a Water Rail at Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve.
