Skomer May 2007

Back to latest sightings

Well, I took some convincing but my daughter twisted my arm really hard and during a holiday in west Wales we headed off to Skomer Island for the day.  Thankfully it was warm and sunny with little wind.  We arrived at Martins Haven at c10:30 and managed to get a place on the 12:00 boat over to the island, it can get very busy at peak times.

Once on the Island you are given some brief instructions and left to your own devices.  So father and daughter set off and during the next five hours were treated to a wildlife spectacle.  There are seabirds everywhere and below are some pictures from our day out.  You can't have enough Puffin pictures I say (we took c250!)

    Choughs are also there;

Kittiwakes use the small ponds to bathe;

Razorbills and Guillemotts are all over the cliff's and near the landing bay;

and the scenery is pretty good as well!

A really great day that comes highly recommended.
